     It turns out what they say is true - “You gotta pay to play.”  And if you’re gonna play, you might as well bite the bullet and get down with the best.  Forget the years of practice, music theory, and proper ear training it takes to become a world-class guitar player.       The Payola Drive is a natural sounding, harmonically complex overdrive that does the transparent thing well but can also play dirty. The “LESS / MORE” button lets the user switch between a light or heavy driven sound.  This feature allows the Payola Drive to cover more sonic territory than a typical low-gain overdrive pedal because we use a combination of soft AND hard clipping diodes rather than just one or the other. The TONE control is a passive filter and works like you would expect / want it to. There’s no surprises there. The GAIN knob has a fairly large sweep so if you have it cranked, the volume control might need to be dialed back some, which reminds me - this pedal can boost.  Since our circuit is a distant cousin of the beloved Tube Screamer (Timmy’ish but with a fixed Bass and Treble control), it can boost with that mid-frequency spank most folks love.  So start your music career off properly and bribe your guitar amp with a little Payola.
